After that last set of posts, it's time to change the subject to something more interesting, or at least hopefully more interesting. This post rather relates to an earlier post in a way, just something to think about. Is showing too much skin a virtual (fictional) death sentence? Is there some sort of social comment being made in linking partial nudity to being killed? After all, so much of the rest of everything is analogy and social commentary. A wry look at mores and human emotions. Allegory for life and its experiences.
Oh, sorry, I'm starting out wrong here. This is about the show Dexter. So if you've not seen it, or don't want to think of what may happen on it in the future, you might want to skip this. The spoilers won't be much though; if you don't watch the show, it won't mean anything to you. If you do watch the show, you likely already know it; you just might not have thought about it.
On Dexter, certainly not everyone that's ended up dead has been partially nude first. Pick any number of random or featured kills, accidents or crossfires. Many of the dead have never shown anything, or all we see of them dead is them partially nude. (Yes, we're born that way, right, naked and hairless.) The point being it doesn't work that direction, there is no "rule" so to speak that "if you're dead you've shown something, then died or been killed". It's not the case.
In the other direction it is the case, although it's not universal. As in, not everyone that that has been partially nude has ended up dead. As far as we know, nothing happened to that helpful lady that Deborah sent to Tony or to the entertainers at the bachelor party, which is about it as far as I remember otherwise.
It might just be coincidence, but there is a lot of precedent here when it comes to major characters, the "skin and dying" thing. So far, every major character that's female that has had their full bare chest shown has been killed. Every major character that's male that has had their bare behind shown has been killed.
Now, before you point out that the sister has been partially nude, I would suggest you go back and re-watch whatever it is you think you saw. Thongs, body-stockings, barriers, blankets and hints don't count. Sure, I could have missed something, but in general they've spent more time making sure nothing was shown than anything else.
But wait, you say, what about.... You are correct on that. There was indeed something seen last season. However, if you remember last season, you might think "nothing happened, story closed, death avoided". But remember, with Frank it took more than one season. Perhaps it's the same thing with Joseph.
Is his time limited? Will the mold be broken? We might as well ask what Deborah and Joseph know about Dexter. Time will tell.
At some point in the future, I'll clarify parts of that here in the comments, or perhaps even above or in a new post. Unless somebody asks about it first, or something like that.
